AP courses are offered based on interest. If you have 3 students at Appy, 3 at Pound, 3 at Kelly that want an AP course they won't get it in those individual schools.
Add those students together in one school, and that constitutes enough interest to offer the class.
I don't see how that's nonsensical.

And I'm not "running" away. It's called the real world. Recall I work 3 jobs. Common sense says go to bed. Some of us don't get to sleep in.

Now they're backtracking and claiming that part of their argument (structures) virtually did not exist... grabbing at straws.

And for the record, for the (???th) time, I am all for improvement of education. But theres no proof whatsoever that consolidation will do this.

no ones said where these schools are gonna be built, driving over that mountain takes a lot of gas, either way and added about 10-15 extra minutes to a trip...

someones gonna have a LONG ride from Polebridge to Pound or Flat Gap to Wise.

Again, you're talking about most people who go to shop who are taking welding or cosmetology or something akin to that. Not what the major subject of discussion was. See these are facts, not the fight the power attitude you have.

You may have perspective and you're right some older folks aren't smarter, but what makes you so sure that you have perspective, because you think you do?? Sorry, every person in the teen to early 20 range is convinced they know more.

As for the classes taught, again, I'll repeat the same thing that has been said before but you deny and ignore because it doesn't suit your argument. A tv class, a video class, is not the same as interaction in a class room enviroment. You talk about teacher/student ratio at a small school but a video class is not interaction. I took a few classes like that at college, through UVA, and even there, the UVA-Wise students were sucking hind tits to the ones who were in the class and could go talk to the teacher, had more interaction and had someone there monitoring them who wasn't just there sitting in the back grading their papers for another class.

It's painfully obvious that if they layed everything down in a straight line for you, and the facts showed 100% that consolidation was right, you would see what you wanted to see. You can say the same thing about me, but I don't want the school consolidated. I complained and fussed about it horrible when it was discussed over here but then I didn't get brainwashed, I started looking at a bigger picture. Maybe one day you will or I guess this area can just rot. Obviously you want that. I made the community argument, that the communities are done dying, I made the argument about education equality, you're argument is "no way I dont want it".

Not really...I won't use Kelly-Pound as an example so you don't so defensive, but let's say Coeburn has 6 kids wanting to take an AP course and St. Paul has 4. Wise County school officials can't justify using a teacher at Coeburn and at St. Paul to teach classes of 6 and 4 students (2 teacher-10 students), but they would have a much better case of justifying in a consolidated school using 1 teacher to teach the 10 students. Some of your points have been very valid, but this is not one of them.

3 Students cant get an AP class? Wow, what a revelation. Because for some reason I was the only student who wanted AP History my senior year, and I took it. Wonder who the 2 or more ghosts were that had to take it with me to constitute enough interest?

And the AP Courses are already offered on VSEN. Any school in the county (and several outside, including one in Washington State) can tune them in, and therefore if there were a few students at each school who wanted the class, then there is no reason they could not all be in the same class. Broadcast it over VSEN, or better yet through the new fiber optic classrooms. (yes we do have such things... even though we are so far behind [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif[/img](hah)

Every person on this forum when going back and reading my posts on this sees that I have mentioned education a multitude of times, as well as structure. Your blinders are on way too tight.

You maintain that the education in Wise County is great, based on what? A personal opinion. Mine is based on people who struggled to finish their 4 year education. Something you did not, so therefore your opinion is slightly less substantiated.
